No. 7

I’ve always had an obsession towards my skin care routine!  Ever since I can remember, I was always trying out and comparing different products.

Don’t get me wrong having clear skin, half the time, is probably down to genetics. Now I’m no skin care expert but people with dry skin mostly have no spots and blemishes, whereas people with oily skin do.  It’s got to do with excess oil being trapped in your pores combined with dead skin cells and bacteria on the surface of your skin, creating the black heads and spots.

I have always had a mixture of both types of skin.  One week it’s dry and the next it’s oily.  However, I have a few tips that can make having skin issues a bit easier.

Obviously these tips might not apply to everyone, but you can change them to work best for you.

When my skin feels very dry I’ll exfoliate once every other day, maybe with a facemask (preferably one that rehydrates my skin) and use a heavy moisturizer.  Especially now as the weather gets colder outside, cracked skin and a feeling of dehydration start to take control.

During the winter I’ll apply Burt’s Bees lip balm, usually every night just to keep my lips soft.  However, I don’t use a facemask every night, electing just to use one once or twice a week.

On the other hand when my skin is really oily, I use a completely different routine.  For example only exfoliating only once a week, so as not to make my skin even oilier. The oil content in some facial products is too much and just makes my skin worse.

When my skin is oily I avoid using a facemask, and limit the frequency to once every two weeks.  I think that it might be too heavy and my oily pores.   The same is true for my moisturizer, I tend to use a lighter one so that it’s not adding to my already oily skin.

Keep working at your skin care everyday, morning and night, because whatever your skin care regime might be, it’s better than doing nothing at all!
